Truth Social CEO David Nunes has confirmed that the platform will launch on the web by the end of May. It originally launched on iOS in February.
Donald Trump’s new social media venture, Social truth, is expected to launch on the web by the end of May. The app launched on Apple’s App Store in late February, but has since been plagued by a myriad of technical issues, preventing people from signing up to the platform. The app was created by Trump Media and Technology Group after the former US president was banned from Twitter following the US Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
Truth Social is based on Mastodon, the free and open-source distributed social network that has seen a massive surge in signups since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter was approved. However, Trump’s new social media app is not currently available on Android, and even on the App Store it is limited to users in the United States and Canada. Donald Trump introduced Truth Social as a “open, free and honest” alternative to the likes of Twitter and Facebook, although many critics vehemently disagreed with this notion and described it as one of the “alt-tech” platforms alongside Gab and Parler.
Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes said the platform’s web app will be available to users by the end of this month, according to Reuters. The launch of the web application will allow access to the platform on any device and would be an important tool for the company to reach the millions of people on Android. Nunes also addressed the Android situation, saying the app will be launched on the Play Store “pending Google approval.”
Trump has only posted once on Truth Social yet.
While Donald Trump and his associates have often touted Truth Social as a beacon of free speech and a way to stand up to big tech, the app itself had a tough first few months and faced low adoption. , even among Trump loyalists. The platform was to be Trump’s official spokesperson after being removed from all major social media platforms last year. However, Trump appears to have posted only once since his creation in February. Instead of using Truth Social, Trump continues to prefer communicating with the media through blog posts and press releases.
While many expect Musk to revoke Donald Trump’s Twitter ban once his takeover of the microblogging platform is finalized, that doesn’t seem to matter. In an interview with FoxNews Late last month, the former US president made it clear that he would not return to Twitter even if his account was reinstated after Musk’s takeover. Instead he said he would stay Social truth and post more regularly than it has done so far.
